Student Wellbeing - Student Leaders
Leadership opportunities are promoted for students throughout the school at every level, from "Class Helpers" in Prep to House Captains, for Junior and Senior School , School Captains in Year 6, as well as Junior School Council.
We have also recently implemented a series of leadership workshops in Year 5 aimed at building communication and leadership skills including teaching communication skills.
A message from our School Captains
As School Captains we agree that the school is a very friendly place to be. Children at our school are very helpful and friendly and set very good examples for their fellow students.
We also have excellent staff who are there all the time for the students when they need help.
Another wonderful thing about W.H.P.S. is that we have excellent programs, including a choice in L.O.T.E. (Language Other Than English) between French and Mandarin.
Starting school for a 5 or 6 year old can be really hard. Each year the Year 6 students are assigned a Prep buddy. They meet for the first time during Prep Orientation day so that the Preps know who their buddy will be on the first day of school. Activities such as reading, cutting and pasting are used to help the buddies get to know each other.
The things we like best about the school are that everyone gets a say and we get a good education.
Junior School Council
Junior School Council at W.H.P.S. is elected by the students to represent the students. We meet monthly to discuss issues that concern students, staff and the community and aim to make W.H.P.S. an even better place to learn.
In previous years JSC members have:
- held lunchtime table tennis competitions
- organised and played various games against the teaching staff
- suggested improvements to our school yard
- oragnised and supervised quiet lunchtime activities in the library
We think the J.S.C. is good because we are involved in making some of the school rules, which is fun and exciting. Comments by our Grade 5 Junior School Council Representative.
