Welcome to our Wheelers Hill Primary School Prep website. At our school there are three Prep classes.
OUR PROGRAMS
Our comprehensive transition program ensures that the new Preps and their parents are familiar with Wheelers Hill Primary School. There are school tours, parent information sessions, Prep activity days and transition days. A smooth transition to Primary School is achieved by the implementation of early school day finishes, a buddy system with the Grade 6 students and a classroom program centred on providing sufficient developmental play opportunities. The Preps have enjoyed getting to know their buddies and making lots of new friends in the process. This has allowed them to settle into the routines of school and enjoy the opportunities to learn.
In a nurturing environment, emphasis is placed on the acquisition of Literacy and Numeracy skills through the implementation of the Early Years Literacy and Numeracy Programs. It is centred on incorporating discussions, independent and group work, written tasks, technology and creative thinking skills into the curriculum.
OUR VALUES
At the start of Prep, our school values of responsibility, respect, honesty/integrity, resilience and tolerance are introduced. The Preps have developed their interpersonal skills by interacting with other students, teachers and other adults. This has involved being able to:
-
follow school and classroom rules
-
learn to play constructively and describe emotions when interacting
-
develop friendships
-
learn how to work together
-
develop skills and behaviour to learn with others
-
learn to share and care for equipment and resources
-
respect the rights, feeling and efforts of others.
SPECIAL EVENTS
There have been a number of special events at our school such as The Community Helpers Program, Fire Education, 100th day of School celebrations, Breakfast at School, RACV Street Scene, Kidz Bodz and Grandparents’ Morning. There have been excursions such as The Melbourne Zoo and visits from our pre-school friends.
