Features Of Level 3 Program

Level 3 Years 3 and 4

A Camp is organized every year for children in Grade 4. In the previous few years it has been held at a Camp in Mount Eliza, either late first term or early second term.

Reading is developed in numerous ways, including the use of literacy groups, serial stories, independent silent reading, home reading and an extensive variety of language activities.

The children are encouraged to take responsibility for their reading and their choices of reading material. Chapter books are encouraged.

Integrated Studies Units based on the Victorian Essential learning Standards cover an interesting and stimulating selection of topics, which rotate during a two year cycle. They are: Our Place – Australia. Victoria and Melbourne

  • Habitats of the World
  • Let’s Communicate
  • To Market, To Market
  • Water a Vital resource
  • Live It Up – Sport and leisure
  • Incredible Machines
  • Plots, Problems and Puzzles

These units feature relevant excursions and in-school activities and may include: Visits to the City of Melbourne and Werribee Zoo

Homework is an important part of the Level 3 program. The purposes of homework are to reinforce concepts taught in class; to encourage development of appropriate research skills and recording techniques; and to encourage the development of a regular commitment to further study out of school hours.

All Grade 3 and 4 children participate in the University of New South Wales, Educational testing Centre Competitions in Mathematics and English. Grade 4 children also participate in the Science competition.
